It took everyone a while to guess the rate on the DR-Z400S a few months ago. So let’s do it again and see if I can’t convert some of you into bikers just for the cost savings alone.
I just added the 99 Triumph Thunderbird Sport to my insurance (I’m under 30, male, and do not have a clean driving record) So what do you think? How much got added to my premium to insure the 885cc Triple?
Congrats to Shane MacGowan’s Teeth O|||||||O answer was $31 annual increase!

$353.26

Lol, far lower (and yes I’m talking about an annual payment)
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:32 |

$180.

Nothing but minimum liability? 35$
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:34 |

I am amazed that it’s lower than that. I’m 21 and have a clean driving record and it’s gonna cost me $900 (EVERY SIX MONTHS) for my dad to insure me on our 2003 Lexus GX.

<$100?
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:34 |

I’d guess $9/month, so $108/year

I have full coverage with $1,000 deductible on my VTX and its like $225, so I’m going to guess $175.

You are very close.

Motorbikes are cheap, very cheap

Yes

Less

I need a decimal point somewhere to accurately gauge this reply.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:40 |

Less, liability only.
Also that’s insane cheap for full coverage! I assume that’s annual?

I mean, I get that the little DR400 is a putt-putt-el-cheapo-japano-bike and the insurance companies think it’s not worth anything so it costs nothing to insure, but HOW do you get such low rates on a Triumph? my ‘97 BMW F650 costs me $219/yr with Progressive. I’m 38, and haven’t gotten a ticket in three years.
$50?
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:43 |

That’s annual. I was going to go with liability only, but it was so cheap I popped on it. Liability only should be under $100...

28$. Higher or lower?
I got a quote for $43 on a brand new cbr600rr recently so I’m assuming lower
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:46 |

Lower, full disclosure I’m speaking of added cost on a multibike policy but when I had it quoted it alone it was just over $60 annually.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:46 |
|
Yep, well under 100 with discounts.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:47 |

O.o and that’s where a dirty record comes in I guess
Higher than $28
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:48 |

$30.50?
Also, if it’s any consolation, it ain’t clean no more :(
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:52 |

I’ll give this to you, it was $31 annual increase
How in the hell did you get a $43 quote on a CBR600? Wait was that monthly?
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:54 |

Annual- but I had bike history, a Jeep and a bike already with the company for years, and a squeaky-clean record. And technically it was two years old, sat at the dealer for that long.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:55 |

OOOOOOH, liability ONLY. I see your game! Still, minimum Liability on my bike is like $175/yr, but for what I pay I have comprehensive with a $100 deductible.

Also, HOOORAY WHATIDIWIN?
![]() 06/08/2016 at 16:59 |

Yeah, I usually buy them cheap enough that liability only pays off the bike in a few years. For some reason I get insanely low liability quotes but adding any sort of coverage more than quadruples it.

You get this digital cookie!
Might not seem like much now, but you wait until we get this whole virtual reality thing worked out.

Wow. My ‘96 GS500E was $263/year with full coverage. I’m 38, male with a clean record.

That’s my secret, liability only

I always tell my car friends that it’s impossible to have a purer automotive experience for cheaper, whether we’re talking about purchase price, insurance, fuel economy, or modifications, its all way cheaper on bikes.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 17:16 |

That’s insane. A buddy of mine got a quote for a street triple and a speed triple, 1200 and 2000 annually. But he’s never ridden before a few months ago.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 17:21 |
|
That doesn’t surprise me at all!
When I was looking at supernakeds, I got a $2500 quote on a KTM Superduke R and a $2300 quote on a Tuono V4. Stamped my desire for one of those right out! Well.. at least until I’m either wealthy enough to afford writing off a 17,000 bike or I get older and my record gets cleaner.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 17:22 |

Totally... Same with me... I’m always telling my friends to get bikes, not just because they’re fun and they make going to the grocery store an adventure, but mainly because they’re so cheap and efficient... 50 mpg, $9/month insurance, and they’re just a blast.... epic stuff. I still can’t belive you found that triumph for so little... deal of the century.

Missed the reply! was $31 annual increase :)

Makes me question my life choices. My Harley StreetBob is $700 year (granted full coverage and I’m 22 with one speeding violation.)
![]() 06/08/2016 at 18:52 |

The extra $62 for collision just paid out $1100 for this totaled bike(which I bought for $850), and which I sold for another $500. Oh, and the refunded me for the unused 3 months of the policy.
So it ain’t all a waste.
![]() 06/08/2016 at 18:58 |

If mine was only an extra $62, I’d probably consider it. The last time I asked (which was a few years ago) however, it more than quadrupled my premium.

It’s nuts how big of a disparity there is from one bike/rider to another.
![]() 06/12/2016 at 18:13 |

or the area....his (decay’s) quotes for those bikes? That would be in the middle, bordering cheap rates for me and my SV650 IF I had a clean record.
fucking ontario insurance
![]() 06/12/2016 at 20:43 |

That’s nuts. I can’t imagine spending that much for a relatively standard bike like an SV. For reference, decay, my friend and I all live in the same metro area. I’m happy I only have to pay a bit over 200/yr. Hopefully yours gets a lot cheaper when you get older.

they dont.
